We sat down with tech creator, tom hitchins

As a brand Slouch appreciates the growing digital world, our set up is designed and engineered to play a crucial role in supporting the physical well-being of a creative and digital creator, enhancing focus, comfort, and overall workflow efficiency.

So, tell us what does a typical day in the life of a tech creator look like?

It’s a really varied experience usually, but a typical day will be a mix of the following : scripting, filming, editing, taking photos, research, posting to all forms of socials, or just emails and admin! I often have to work very quickly to hit a deadline or to jump on a trend so often all these things can be thrown to the wind to make something in the moment if I need to.

Along with the professional work you do, do you find time for your independent projects?

Being a content creator was a personal project to me and in a way it still is, so I very luckily feel like I now have all the time in the world for my personal project, which is a nice feeling!

When brainstorming new concepts or ideas, where do you find most of your inspiration?

I have a pretty big YouTube addiction so I’ll often get ideas from watching other people’s content from outside my tech niche, and think of ways to bring it into my own. Also, my mind tends to run when I go to bed (which can be annoying) so I often write things down on my phone in bed too.

Over the past decade, we’ve seen a significant surge in the popularity of technology-driven content creation, from social media influencers to emerging trends like virtual reality experiences. How do you think this shift has reshaped or influenced the tech industry as a whole?

Ooof that’s a big question. I would say access to a lot of these technologies has been democratised so the barrier to entry is now so low that anyone with a phone can make content and give their opinion. Apps like TikTok made phone footage and user generated content so widely accepted I think a lot of companies have leaned into that ‘rough and ready’ feel, which isn’t something we used to see at all. These things come and go though, so it’ll change again soon I’m sure.

As technology continues to evolve rapidly, how do you stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and techniques in the tech industry?

I work in a tech niche so keeping up to date with it is not only really interesting to me but it’s also part of my job – so I enjoy reading, watching, or just keeping up to date with it all!

Finally, which tools or gadgets do you find most valuable for optimising productivity and creativity in your workspace?

For me, it’s not so much about the tools but more about the space you’re in. So many offices are dull creativity sponges and that’s never any good, I really think it’s worth creating a space where you feel inspired and want to be creative! Put things in it YOU like and want to see. It will make a huge difference to your output, and you’ll feel better too. And, obviously, a good chair helps 😉
