We had the opportunity to sit down with the owners of Blush and Gold, who shared their insights on creating a positive work environment and how these strategies contributed to their business success.
How do you create a daily routine that supports both your creativity and your wellbeing?
A great day starts with balance. I always begin my mornings with something grounding, like a short walk to get the kids to school or journaling with my coffee—it clears my mind and sets a positive tone. Then, I carve out focused time for creativity, whether it’s designing new layouts or brainstorming fun ideas. I like to schedule breaks throughout the day to get up and about and I make sure my evenings are reserved for unwinding, whether that’s reading, cooking, or spending time watching my favourite TV shows. Balance keeps me energised and creative, so I prioritise it like a meeting with myself.
What tools, habits, or practices help you cultivate a workspace that promotes productivity and mindfulness?
I’m all about creating a workspace that feels calm and tidy! I always start with a clean desk—it’s amazing how much mental clarity comes from a tidy space. I keep a planner front and centre to map out my day, along with a notepad for jotting down random ideas. I also swear by time-blocking in my planner—it helps me stay focused while giving me permission to pause. Oh, and noise-cancelling headphones and a killer playlist are non-negotiable 😊
What inspired you to start your brand, and how did your journey begin?
It all started in 2016 when I was designing wedding invitations as a wedding stationer. I loved the creative process, but when I began planning my own wedding, I realised I needed something to keep all the details in one place. That’s when I designed the very first version of the Wedding Planner. It was meant just for me, but when others saw it, the response was incredible! That unexpected success gave me the confidence to expand. It wasn’t easy at first—there were late nights, self-doubt, and so much trial and error, but I started creating other products, like wellness journals, baby memory books, and, eventually, diaries in 2022. Around that time, my partner Paul joined the team, and together, we’ve poured our hearts into growing the brand. What started as a small passion project has turned into something bigger than I ever imagined, and we’ve never looked back!
When brainstorming new concepts or ideas, where do you find most of your inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere if you know where to look! I find a lot of my ideas in conversations with customers—they’re so passionate about their needs and dreams. Nature is another big one for me—there’s something about a walk in the park that clears my head and sparks fresh ideas. And, of course, I draw inspiration from my own life—what I wish I had during a busy time in my life, or through motherhood, or even a big celebration like a wedding. Pinterest and Instagram are also my happy places for visual inspiration.
How do your personal stories and experiences shape the products you create?
Every planner I design has a piece of me in it. I’ve been through chaotic times where I just needed to feel in control, and times when I wanted a space to dream big and stay inspired. Those experiences shape everything from the layout choices to the little motivational details sprinkled throughout my products. I think about what’s helped me, what’s made me smile, and what I wish I’d had—and I create with that in mind.
What are your top tips for people looking to boost productivity and become their most organised selves?
Start with a plan: Write everything down! A planner is your best friend for keeping track of tasks, deadlines, and goals.
Prioritise: Focus on what matters most each day, and don’t be afraid to let the less urgent stuff wait.
Time-blocking: Schedule your day in chunks for specific tasks, and include breaks—they’re just as important as work time!
Declutter your space: A clean, organised workspace can do wonders for your focus.
