At Slouch we care. We care about providing a product and service that meets and exceeds all expectations. We care that when things go wrong, they need to be put right as fast and as seamlessly as possible. At Slouch we care about you.
In an ideal world nothing would go wrong, we’d never fail, we’d never be set back and there would never be problems that need to be solved. However, in the real world, there’s more wrongs than rights, more failure than success and we see setbacks far more than we see success. We live in a world where success is praised, and failure is frowned upon. More light is shone upon the good than the bad. This creates a false sense of life, no one is constantly winning.
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael B Jordan
One of the biggest misconceptions that comes with people who are trying to succeed or win is that they need to know ‘how to win’ or that everyday needs to be ‘perfect’. When in actual fact the key to success is learning how to fail, how to pick up the pieces and put them back together.
At Slouch, like any business, we make mistakes. We forget, misplace and just get things wrong. We’re human. But what makes us different is how we deal with our failures. We pride ourselves on offering a 5* service to every customer, being attentive, empathetic and understanding to any queries, questions or problems. We want your experience with Slouch to be effortless.
So how do we deal with these failures and mistakes? We see every mishap as a learning opportunity; “If thisdidn’t happen, we would never have known this” or “Now we know this, we can implement and improve this”.
You can fail 100 times but if you succeed on the 101st attempt you’ve won, the failures no longer matter, but you’ve learnt things and grown far more than if you would have succeeded on your first attempt.
So, what are our top tips for dealing with failure?
- Allow yourself to be upset and to feel the situation – Disappointment is natural and you need to feel this in order to move forward.
- Don’t associate failure as a negative – As soon as you detach failure from negative feelings and start to look positively on it, you will start to automatically take the good and simply ignore the bad
- Be kind to yourself – EVERYBODY fails, no one is constantly winning, in fact people fail a whole lot more than they win! You are not of any less value just because things didn’t go the way you planned.
- Drop the comparison – Humans are great at depicting perfect lives, social media is covered with people showing 1% of their lives, all the ups and no downs. Take a step back and realise all these people who you can see winning have also had to fail over and over to get any of these wins!
- Make a lesson of it – We fail, to learn.
- Give yourself credit for trying – You’ve succeeded more by trying and failing than not trying at all. “Every shot not taken is a shot missed”.
